A 39-year-old man was being treated in hospital for serious injuries after being rescued from a fire in a block of flats on Northern Ireland's Co Antrim coast today.
He suffered extensive burns to the legs and the effects of smoke inhalation in the fire in Portrush.
The Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to the flats in Princess Street after the resident of a neighbouring flat heard a fire alarm.
The man was rescued by officers wearing breathing apparatus from the first floor and another man, aged 47, was rescued from a flat on the floor above.
The more seriously injured man was taken to hospital in nearby Coleraine, but later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast because of the extent of his injuries.
Fire Service station commander Charlie McAuley said: "His legs and lower body were seriously injured by the fire and he was suffering greatly from smoke inhalation."
The second man was treated at the scene for the effects of smoke.
A Police Service spokesman said they were investigating the fire. However it was initially thought to have been an accident.
