A man was shot dead today by armed police in Britain, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said.
The man was killed at around 3pm after officers responded to reports of an armed man in Guildford, Surrey, the IPCC said in a statement tonight.
Investigators from the IPCC have arrived at the scene, the spokesman added.
The statement said: "The Independent Police Complaints Commission is to independently investigate the fatal shooting of a man in Guildford, Surrey, at approximately 3pm this afternoon by officers from Surrey Police.
"The IPCC investigators already deployed to the scene are in Guildford and will provide an assessment for IPCC Commissioner Rebecca Marsh, following a referral of the shooting by Surrey Police.
"The police had deployed armed officers following reports of an armed man earlier this afternoon."
The IPCC said it will not release the man's identity or any further details today.
