A man (38) was stabbed with a hunting knife during a robbery at his Co Tyrone home early today.
His 65-year-old mother suffered a minor injury to her throat when one of the intruders put the seven inch blade to it and threatened to harm her.
Police said the armed robbers entered the house at Ballynakilly Road, Coalisland, at around 5am. The pensioner heard them moving around, but when she tried to open her bedroom door it was held shut.
Two men - one armed with the hunting knife - went into her son's room where they demanded money from him as he lay in bed.
A struggle followed and he managed to push the men out of his room, but they grabbed his mother, put the knife to her throat and threatened to harm her if they were not allowed back into his bedroom, said a police spokesman.
The raiders forced their way back into the son's bedroom, stole a sum of money and made off. It was only after they were gone that the son realised he had been stabbed. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later released.
His mother was shocked by the ordeal but did not need stitches to her throat wound, said the spokesman.
Detectives want to hear from anyone who saw a VW or Audi diesel car on the Ballynakilly Road late last night - or a car with a registration starting with OLZ.
