Police are investigating a shooting in a Newry pub in last night in which two people were injured.

Police are investigating a shooting in a Newry pub in last night in which two people were injured.

The attack happened at around 7.30 p.m. when a masked man armed with a handgun entered McSwiggans licensed premises on Water Street and fired a number of shots.

A man was apparently singled out and was then shot three times in the legs.  A woman, who was not in the company of the man sustained a gunshot wound to an ankle.

Police have appealed for anyone who was in the premises at the time of the shooting to come forward.

Elsewhere, a man (19) is being treated in a Belfast hospital after he was shot in the east of the city last night.

The shooting happened at Armitage Close at around 10.15 p.m., and police have appealed for witnesses.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy had a lucky escape after a petrol bomb attack in north Belfast.

The boy was in the front room of his family home in Somerdale Park, off the Crumlin Road, when a brick was thrown through the front window at around 11 p.m.

A petrol bomb was also thrown, igniting on the grass, causing scorch damage.

Two adults and three other children were also in the house at the time however, no-one was injured.

A police spokesman said they had yet to establish a motive for the attack and appealed for anyone in the area between 10:30 p.m and 11:30 p.m. to contact them.
