Johannesburg - President Nelson Mandela's ruling African National Congress yesterday demanded an apology from Nigeria over a minister's comment that the South African statesman was the "black head" of a white country.
In a statement, the ANC spokesman, Mr Ronnie Mamoepa, said the party felt "shock and disgust" at references on July 14th by the Nigerian Information Minister, Mr Walter Ofonagoro, to South Africa as "a white country with a black head [of state]". The ANC demanded an "unreserved apology from the Nigerian government," Mr Mamoepa said. - (AFP)
