THE PARENTS of Swiss teenager Manuela Riedo are due to return to Galway early next month for a fundraising concert in her memory.

A number of musicians including Mary Coughlan, Mairtín O’Connor, the Mulkerrin Brothers and Lucia Evans are participating in the concert, which will be held in aid of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre.

Hans Peter and Arlette Riedo, whose only child was murdered in Galway three years ago, said that returning to Galway helps them deal with their grief.

“For us each year, each day, each hour we are sad that Manuela died, but if we are in Galway with our friends, Manuela is very close to us. Manuela will always rest in Galway,” Mrs Riedo has said. The Riedos have visited Galway a number of times since the 17-year old student was murdered just days after arriving in the city to study English.
