FORMER ADVISER to Charles Haughey and Fianna Fáil strategist PJ Mara has been appointed Jamaica's honorary consul in Ireland. The announcement was made in Dublin this week by the minister for tourism for Jamaica, Edmund Bartlett.

Mr Mara's appointment comes as Jamaica sees a growth in tourism from Ireland, with more than 4,000 visitors last year.

Mr Bartlett said the appointment of Mr Mara would facilitate the growth of trade and friendship between Jamaica and Ireland.

Friendship links were substantially increased last year when the Irish cricket team participated in the Cricket World Cup and beat Pakistan.
