The ISEQ index of shares today bucked European trends, remaining nearly 84 points up, at 6,341.27, by late afternoon. The move came on the back of a strong showing by the main financials.
Shortly before close AIB was up 32 cents at euro 12.87 while Irish Life and Permanent had another positive day, up 25 cents at euro 13.95. Bank of Ireland fared less well but still managed to be trading 1 cent up at euro 10.77.
Also driving the upward surge was Irish-American pharmaceutical group Elan which rose euro 3.20 to be trading at euro 71.20.
Contrasting fortunes for Iona Tech as their share price dropped euro 2.25 to be trading at euro 39.50.
Another quiet day for Eircom left the company’s share price at euro 1.26, 1 cent down on the day.
Elsewhere Kerry Group was down 9 cents at euro 13.39 while Donegal Creameries dropped 20 cents, to euro 1.80.
Ryanair was up 50 cents to euro 12.00 while Riverdeep was down 8 cents at euro 5.12.
