The Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment said today he is keen to publish the result of the Inspectorate's report on Gama a legal challenge is resolved.
Micheál Martin said he was anxious to publish the report as soon as possible, taking into consideration that there was a interim injunction preventing the publication until April 11th.
Gama Construction Ireland obtained a temporary High Court injunction preventing the publication of the report until Monday April 11 th.
Representatives of the Gama are meeting officials from Siptu at Liberty House this afternoon to discuss the alleged mistreatment of employees working for the firm.
The union is seeking assurances that 140 employees whose work permits have expired will not be repatriated to Turkey and that workers will be given immediate access to money held in their names in accounts in a bank in The Netherlands.
Micheál Martin said his objective was that workers would receive given their entitlements and that their terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the law and are honoured in full.
The Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment said that at the commencement of their investigation, the Labour Inspectorate sought and received several assurances from GAMA that no repatriation of any workers would take place, without prior consultation with the Labour Inspectorate. To date that commitment has been honoured.
Minister Martin will be meeting representatives of SIPTU, ICTU and the Construction Industry Federation in relation to this issue.
By the end of 2004 Gama employed nearly 11,000 worldwide people including 1,315 workers in Ireland.
