A delegation of Irish companies led by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin today travels to Egypt to boost business links between the countries.
It is hoped the three-day visit will open up new markets for Irish firms in north Africa and the Middle East.
Mr Martin will meet his counterpart as well as the country's telecommunications minister during the trip.
"Irish companies increased their sales in Egypt by an impressive 26 per cent last year," he said.
"This growth can accelerate further over the next few years as Egypt offers significant market potential for Irish companies, particularly in software development, financial services, construction, education and public sector and utilities."
Some 18 firms will be on the Enterprise Ireland-organised mission.
