Sinn Fein tonight stepped up its demands for a probe into the murders of prominent republicans.
The party claims the British Government had colluded with the loyalist community to kill leaders of the Republican community.
Belfast Lord Mayor Mr Alex Maskey said the collusion had helped drive the conflict for years.
He said an investigation was vital to ensure the perpetrators were removed from the system.
Speaking at the House of Commons he said: "Collusion has run right through the heart of British policy in Northern Ireland for many decades.
"Collusion is directly responsible for a considerable number of deaths. We need the truth."
Sinn Fein has suggested a truth commission along the lines of the one set up in South Africa. But the party remains open-minded on the way forward.
