"A few tonnes" of radioactive waste from Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities was dumped at the Beaufort Dyke in 1953.

A damaged closed caesium-137 power source leaking caesium powder was dumped at a point from Cairnryan to the Beaufort Dyke in 1957.

A licence to discharge 30 tonnes a month of liquid organic solvent and solid waste containing Thorium and uranium into the sea at Morecambe Bay was granted to Effluent Services Ltd in March 1972. A similar licence to dump 30 tonnes a month of the same material at Liverpool Bay was granted to the firm in November 1972. .
