France's Amelie Mauresmo defeated Spain's Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in Amelia Island, Florida,to book a WTA finals date against South Africa's Amanda Coetzer.
Sixth seed Mauresmo beat seventh-seed Sanchez 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals of the Bausch & Lomb ChampionshipsWTA clay court tournament.
Sanchez, a two-time winner here, had upset world Number 1 Martina Hingis in the quarter-finals. But fatigue from singles and doubles matches may have caught up with her against Mauresmo.
Coetzer dispatched Russia's 90th-ranked Nadia Petrova 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
After winning the first set, Petrova notched a service break and was serving at 4-2, 40-love in the second set. But Coetzer rallied, winning that game and four of the next five to take the set and the momentum.
