RUC detectives were questioning a Mayo man last night after he appeared in court.
Mr Thomas McLoughlin (42) was arrested in the seaside village of Carnlough, Co Antrim, on Thursday morning, in a raid by RUC officers on the guest house in which he was staying. Mr McLoughlin appeared before Craigavon Magistrates' Court, charged with theft and making off without payment of £100 from a guest house in Lurgan. The offences are believed to have been committed last month. The defendant was also charged with being in possession of a cheque book stolen in the Republic. After an RUC inspector told the court that police officers from Belfast and Newry wanted to interview Mr McLoughlin in relation to a number of other alleged offences, the resident magistrate, Mr Ken Nixon, remanded him on a 72-hour order to appear at Lurgan RUC station. He is expected to appear before Craigavon Court again next Monday.
