Mayor sets up group to tackle Dublin crime

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mr Michael Conaghan, has established a commission on Crime and Policing in Dublin.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mr Michael Conaghan, has established a commission on Crime and Policing in Dublin.

The aim of the commission is to identify solutions to crime and policing issues in Dublin with particular emphasis on public order, anti-social behaviour and drug and alcohol abuse in the city.

The body will present its initial findings to the Dublin City Council meeting in December 2004.

Those findings will influence the final stages of the new Garda Bill in relation to proposed new roles for local authority involvement in dealing with crime and policing.

Invitations have been extended to the general public and to community and social organisations to submit written solutions to the problem of anti-social behaviour in Dublin.

Written submissions may be addressed to The Lord Mayor's Commission on Crime and Policing, The Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2 or emailed to crimeandpolicing@dublincity.ie.

The final date for receipt of submissions is October 15th.

The Commission has the support of the Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner.
