The RDS will play host to the former Beatles star, Paul McCartney, who is back in Dublin tonight for his first Irish concert in 40 years.

This will be the first show McCartney has played in Ireland since performing here with the Beatles in the Adelphi cinema in 1963.

Some 30,000 tickets went on sale for the concert priced at €75 and €105, but McCartney has failed to sell out the RDS. Promoters refused to say how many tickets were left.

McCartney will be playing a 2½-hour set including 22 Beatles hits. He recently said he especially looked forward to playing Dublin "because Ireland is such a special place for me. My mother originally hailed from Ireland, it's where Heather and I chose to be married and I have a lot of ties with the land and the people."

Ticketmaster is supporting a warning from gardaí to fans not to buy a ticket on the street. Forgeries have already been offered to unsuspecting members of the public.

Met Éireann has predicted good weather for fans. Some thundery showers are expected, but rain should stay away from the RDS until the end of the show.

Donnybrook gardaí have advised fans to arrive early as traffic is likely to be heavy in the Ballsbridge area in the run-up to this evening's concert. They have also asked motorists not to block access routes and to ensure all valuables are kept out of sight.
