A high Court judge yesterday directed that Pearse McCauley, who is serving a 14-year sentence for the manslaughter of Det Garda Jerry McCabe, pay £10,000 to the State over his absconding three years ago while on bail. Mr Justice Cyril Kelly granted an application by Ms Sunniva McDonagh, for the Attorney General, for the estreatment - forfeiture - of £10,000 on the basis of a bail recognisance entered into by McCauley (34), originally from Strabane, Co Tyrone. The judge said he was satisfied it was a proper matter for estreatment because of the breach of bail conditions.
