Antrim¿s Graeme McDowell has been named as the European Tour's Asprey Golfer of the Month for August.
The 23-year-old from Portrush won the Volvo Scandinavian Masters on just the fourth start of his professional career - one quicker than Tiger Woods and two faster than Sergio Garcia.
"I'm naturally thrilled," he said. "Three months ago I could not have imagined being in this position with a European Tour title to my name and now another item of silverware to treasure.
"This award caps a very exciting month for me and my family and I am honoured to be the choice of the Asprey panel ahead of so many deserving candidates."
The other leading contenders considered were Craig Parry, Adam Scott, Thomas Bjorn, Paul Lawrie and Swede Adam Mednick, all of whom won as well, and Justin Rose for his fifth place in the NEC World Championship and 49-year-old Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance for his third place at the Diageo Scottish PGA Championship.
Other winners this year were Rose (January and May), Jose Maria Olazabal (February), Ernie Els (March and July), Retief Goosen (April) and Miles Tunnicliff (June).
