Brian McEniff has stepped down as Donegal manager in the wake of their semi-final defeat to Armagh in Croke Park yesterday.

Announcing his departure, the Donegal boss criticised referee Michael Monaghan after having Raymond Sweeney sent off minutes after the start of the second half.

McEniff cited the fact that Monaghan had sent off two of his players in the last three months and that his team had not got a reputation as a dirty team.

"I'll say what I have to say because it's my last game as team manager as everybody knows," McEniff told RTE."I've been involved in football management for 31 years on and off and had (only) four players sent off. Strangely enough that man, the referee, has sent off two of them in the last five months."It was disappointing that we had to play the entire second half with 14 men. We're not a dirty team," he added.McEniff has vowed to aid the Donegal board in the search for his replacement.
