John McEnroe generally had it all his own way at the KPMG Challenge at The Point in Dublin this week - until yesterday.
The New Yorker's contests against John Lloyd and Michael Pernfors had come perilously close to mismatches, but the final of the ATP Seniors Tennis Tournament against France's Guy Forget was regularly in doubt. McEnroe won the two setter only after two tie-breaks and neither player once dropped his serve.
The last sighting of McEnroe was of him jogging out the side door of The Point, a minder in pursuit with shoes, watch and sundry items of clothing draped over his arm.
