A Co Meath-based meat-cutting plant was closed down last month by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
The company - ECU Meats Limited, T/A International Meat and Livestock, of Hazelby House, Rathfeigh, Tara, Co Meath - was closed for breaches of food safety legislation. The closure order was served on Mr Gerry Quinn on March 8th last.
A prohibition order which halts the sale of produce was served on the same date. It relates to the contents of the freezer units at the plant.
As of yesterday the orders had not been lifted.
A closure order was also served on Ms Kemi Ayeni Agunbiade for the closure of the Central supermarket, 8-9 Moore Street (ground floor only), Dublin 1, on March 2nd.
The order was lifted five days later.
Dr John O'Brien, chief executive of the Food Safety Authority, said every closure order served sent a clear signal to all food businesses that the FSAI would not tolerate the use of unsuitable premises or unsafe practices.
"Enforcement officers only serve orders where they believe there are serious legal infringements," Dr O'Brien added, "and standards have fallen so low that the public's health has been put at risk."
