The village of Ballivor in Meath was only waking up yesterday morning when the news came that one of its newest residents had been killed in a holiday accident. Thirty-five-year old Alan Daly and his wife Clodagh were taking part in an adventure holiday in Austria when Alan died during a white water rafting outing.

The couple and their two-year-old daughter moved into the Beechwood Estate a few weeks ago. Before that they had lived in Lucan and had continued to commute to work in Dublin from their new home.

One woman who knew them said "they were very very nice people and a lovely couple. I could not believe it when I heard that Alan had been killed. It is heartbreaking." Clodagh is expecting their second child and her family in Donegal was said to be shocked at the news of Alan's death.

Ballivor is a small community between Trim and Kinegad and while locals were not well acquainted with the Daly family they did extend their sympathies to them.
