A leading medical device manufacturing and packaging company is to create 80 jobs in Galway as part of its expansion programme in Ireland.
Contech Medical announced it hopes to have up to 40 of the new jobs filled by the middle of the year although the remaining positions will gradually be introduced over a period of four years.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms Mary Harney, welcomed the announcement and said the investment in the Galway facility would significantly increase its value and role in the company's world-wide business.
Most of the new jobs will be in the operations area, with other opportunities in engineering, quality control and administration.
Contech Medical attributed the expansion to additional out-sourcing business from both existing and new customers in Europe and the US, and said it would more than double the space at its Galway facility in the Parkmore business park to 35,000 sq. ft.
