A medical devices company is to create more than 450 jobs in Cashel, Co Tipperary.

A medical devices company is to create more than 450 jobs in Cashel, Co Tipperary.

Cordis Corporation, a Johnson & Johnson company, is to establish a development and manufacturing facility, with the support of IDA Ireland, it was announced today.

The company makes products that treat medical problems associated with coronary artery disease. Its biggest products are drug-eluting stents.

The investment in Cashel will create more than 450 new high-tech positions over the next three years and will require people with medical devices engineering, technical and laboratory qualifications and skills, development personnel up to PhD level.

The firm will also be hiring management and administration staff. It is expected the company will be up and running by the first half of 2008.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheal Martin said the investment decision is "highly significant".
