An ambulance was called to the Mahon tribunal in Dublin Castle today after former Dublin Assistant City and County Manager George Redmond was taken ill.
Redmond - who was imprisoned for 12 months on corruption charges in December - collapsed while Mr Conor Maguire SC, counsel for the Taoiseach, was consulting with colleagues following the lunchtime recess. Mr Maguire is cross-examining property developer Mr Tom Gilmartin.
Mr Redmond appeared to collapse and fall from his chair and was assisted by various lawyers representing other parties.
An ambulance was called and paramedics treated Redmond at the scene. Redmond refused to go to hospital and told Judge Alan Mahon that he felt able to remain at the hearing.
Redmond, who is representing himself at the inquiry, has been attending the planning inquiry daily, leaving the confines of Cloverhill prison in a van in the morning and being picked up in the evening by prison guards.
