The Law Reform Commission was established under the Law Reform Commission Act 1975. It is an independent body consisting of a president and four other members appointed by the Government. Its members are:
Mr Justice Vivian Lavan, judge of the High Court, president (he has recently replaced Mr Justice Anthony J. Hederman, a former judge of the Supreme Court who was president of the Commission while the report was being prepared but has now retired);
Ms Hilary A. Delany BL, lecturer in law, Trinity College Dublin;
Dr Turlough O'Donnell QC;
