Two men in their 50s are expected to appear before Dublin District Court this morning in connection with the seizure of a kilo of what gardaí believe to be cocaine with an estimated street value of €70,000 on Saturday evening. The discovery was made during a search of a house in Clontarf in Dublin.
Early on Sunday, a search of a house in Clondalkin in west Dublin also led officers to recover what they suspect is almost a kilo of heroin, with a street value of up to €150,000.
The first operation took place shortly before 6.30pm on Saturday when a flat at Beverley Court, Vernon Avenue, Clontarf, was searched by gardaí from Clontarf Garda station, assisted by members of the Garda National Drugs Unit.
A Garda spokesman said the search was part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs on Dublin's south side.
"One kilo of what is believed to be cocaine was seized during the course of the search . . .two men were arrested at the scene aged 52 and 58 years."
Both men remained in custody in Clontarf Garda station last night and will be charged in relation to the incident at Dublin District Court this morning, the spokesman said.
The second operation was prompted by the discovery of 16 ecstasy tablets and a small amount of what is believed to be heroin when officers from Ronanstown stopped and searched a car on Neilstown Avenue, Clondalkin, on Sunday morning.
A man who was in the car is also due to be charged at Dublin District Court this morning.
