Gardaí have arrested a man for questioning about an arson attack on the home of an 87-year-old woman in Cork city last year.
Detectives arrested the man in his mid-20s in the Blarney area this morning at 9am and brought him to Gurranebraher Garda station for questioning.
The arrest follows an investigation by gardaí under Supt Con Cadogan into the attack on the home of May O'Gorman on December 13th.
An accelerant was poured through the letter box of Ms O'Gorman's home at Murrough's Lane off Blarney Street and set alight.
A neighbour spotted smoke coming from the house and alerted the emergency services.
Garda John O'Sullivan and Reserve Garda Peter Clifford were first on the scene. They broke down the door of the house and got Ms O'Gorman from the smoke-filled building. She was later treated for smoke inhalation in hospital.
The suspect arrested this morning was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for 24 hours.
