Two men appeared in court this afternoon following an incident last night where a woman was forced from her car in Dublin city centre.
The Latvian nationals were charged with handling a stolen car under Section 17 of the Theft and Fraud Offences Act.
The 38-year-old woman's red Mazda car was stopped at traffic lights at around 9.15pm on the East Wall Road when one man allegedly broke into the passenger side of the car and hit the woman with a blunt instrument while the other tried to get in on the driver's side.
The woman ran from the car on foot into East Wall fire station. The men fled the scene as the woman received assistance from a number of firemen.
Sergeant Stephen O'Keefe told Dublin District Court that Vasiliis Lapeskins (26), with an address at Milton Apartments, Dublin Road, Swords, and Juris Krasouskis (27) from Pheasant Run, Clonee, were charged at 1.33pm today. They made no reply after caution.
The proceedings were translated for them by a Russian interpreter. Judge Hugh O'Donnell heard that both men would be applying for bail but that the address of one of them had to be checked in advance of the next court date. The men were remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on January 24 at 10.30am.
