A man who works in the security sector was being questioned last night after almost €200,000 in cash was seized by gardaí in Dublin as part of a money-laundering operation.
The money was found when a man in his 30s was stopped on Snugborough Road, Blanchardstown, on Tuesday evening by members of the Garda National Drugs Unit.
His vehicle was searched as part of a planned operation. When gardaí found large sums of money in the van, they arrested the driver.
A follow-up search was also carried out at a house in Co Kildare. At that address a man in his 60s was arrested.
Both suspects were being questioned by gardaí last night at Blanchardstown Garda station.
Gardaí believe the money was about to be taken out of the Republic and used as a deposit to fund a major drugs purchase on the Continent on behalf of a Dublin organised crime gang.
The older man arrested is believed to have been helping crime gangs move money offshore and to launder it.
