Two men were being questioned by detectives in Derry last night about the attempted murder of two Catholic brothers in the city on July 27th.
The RUC described the shooting of Mr Francis Creane (57) and his brother, Anthony, (53), by masked gunmen who burst into their home in the mainly Protestant Caw Estate in Derry's Waterside area as "a sectarian murder bid". Both men were shot several times in the legs. Mr Francis Creane was later released from hospital, but his brother remains in a critical condition in a Belfast hospital.
