Two men pleaded not guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court yesterday to five charges relating to the discovery of an estimated £100 million worth of cocaine in a yacht in Kinsale.
A date had been set by the court for the hearing of the trial of Dubliner Mr John O'Toole (51), of Via Argentina, Panama City, and Briton Mr Michael Tune (39), of San Eugenio, Las Americas, Tenerife, but was deferred because Mr O'Toole changed solicitors yesterday. They face five charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act and the Customs Consolidation Act. It is alleged they imported cocaine between August 31st and September 5th, 1998 and they had the drug for the purpose of selling and supplying to others.
The hearing was adjourned until FEBRUARY 22nd and Mr O'Toole and Mr Tune were remanded in custody.
