Pop fans, motorists and magazine readers are "getting a raw deal" from Europe's single market, according to Fine Gael MEP Mr John Cushnahan.

Citing the latest offering from U2, Mr Cushnahan said the Pop CD cost £14.99 in the Republic but just £11.99 for fans across the Border.

"This makes a nonsense of the concept of the single market and cannot be tolerated," he said.

Calling on the European Commission to investigate the disparities, Mr Cushnahan said that "Irish citizens are entitled to no more and no less than their fellow Europeans."
