COMEDIAN PAUL Merton will attend this year's Corona Cork Film Festival for the screening of his show, Silent Clowns, which celebrates Hollywood's golden age of silent comedy.
Merton is travelling to Cork for the October 14th screening of his film, which combines memorable moments from the pre-talkie era with his own commentary.
Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow and will be available on www.corkfilmfest.org and in the festival box office, which is located in Merchants Quay Shopping Centre, Patrick's Street.
The festival runs from October 12th to October 19th. This year's opening film is the Coen brothers' Burn After Reading.
"Though different in tone to last year's opening triumph, No Country For Old Men, we are confident that this latest film from the talented Coen brothers, which stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt, will delight our audience," festival director Mick Hannigan said.
He also hailed as a coup the festival screening of Steve McQueen's Hunger, which tells the story of Bobby Sands, focusing on the final days of his hunger strike at the Maze prison in 1981. It won the Camera d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
The festival will also pay tribute to renowned British filmmaker Terence Davies, who will take part in a public interview.
