Belgrade - The Yugoslav President, Mr Slobodan Milosevic, in a rare public appearance yesterday reopened an oil refinery in the northern town of Pancevo damaged in NATO's 11-week bombing campaign, the state Tanjug news agency reported.

This was the third time since the end of the bombing in June that Mr Milosevic had attended such a ceremony.

In Belgrade yesterday 6,000 people turned out for the eighth consecutive day of protests against President Milosevic. However, more than 15,000 people turned out in a protest in Nis, the third-largest town in Serbia.
