The Minister for Arts John O'Donoghue has reappointed senior counsel Eoin McGonigal as chairman of the Irish Museum of Modern Art (Imma).
The Minister has also appointed seven other members of the board, among them The Irish Times film critic Michael Dwyer.
In making his announcement, Mr O'Donoghue praised the work of Imma and pointed out that the museum's reputation was growing throughout Europe and North America.
"Exciting recent exhibitions have struck a chord with the public and are a manifestation of the developing interest in modern art throughout the country," said Mr O'Donoghue. "This is borne out by the increasing visitor numbers to Imma both last year and in the current year," he said.
Other members of the board appointed by the Minister yesterday include Frank X Buckley, Valerie Connor, Brendan Flynn, Áine O'Driscoll, Brian Ranalow and Patricia Tsouros, founding member of the Imma Foundation.
