Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Brian Cowen is today leaving Washington for New York.

He is the first Irish member of Government to visit the city since terrorist attacks caused the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.
He is expected to meet New York City Mayor Mr Rudolph Giuliani, New York Governor Mr George Pataki, representatives from the New York Fire Department and leaders of the Irish-American community during the two-day visit to the city.
Mr Cowen will attend a memorial mass on Sunday for those who perished in the September 11th attacks.
The Minister met with US Secretary of State Mr Colin Powell in Washington yesterday. He pledged Ireland would work with the US and use the chairmanship of the Security Council to ensure resolutions of the UN are enforced.
