Minister for Science and Education Dr Michael Woods has unveiled a website that aims to provide medical information for second- and third-level students.
Studyingmedicine.com, co-sponsored by UCD and the Royal College of Surgeons, provides information on third-level medical courses for young students as well as giving existing medical students a comprehensive archive containing tutorials, discussion forums and lecture notes.
The website will soon contain material from medical colleges in Cork and Galway.
Welcoming the new initiative, Dr Woods said he believed the site would help increase Internet use amongst students: "This resource will provide a valuable insight to second level students into the work involved in pursuing a medical career, by providing them with direct access to students engaged in studying medicine".
"The introduction of technology into teaching and learning is a key priority for the Government," said the Minister.
"Already over £40 million has been spent on integrating information and communication technology into education at first and second level and a further £85 million will be invested over the next three years to build on the huge progress we have made in this area."
