London - A minor earthquake hit central Wales late yesterday, but there were no reports of injuries or damage. Emergency services said scores of people had called them, with the tremor appearing to have had a 40-km radius around Brecon.
The earthquake measured 3.5 on the Richter scale, said seismologist Mr Glenn Ford of the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh. "It would be regarded as minimal in other parts of the world. There are at least 50,000 a year of that size," he said. "But it is very significant here."
