The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has closed its file on investigations into how 3,000 votes were erroneously bundled during the 2009 European elections in the North West constituency, writes Lorna Siggins.
Independent candidate Fiachra Ó Luain, who made the initial complaint, has said that the public is “no nearer to the truth as to how such a large number of votes could be misappropriated”. He is calling on Minister for Justice Alan Shatter and Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan to pursue the issue.
