A convicted sex offender who had gone missing from his approved accommodation in Northern Ireland has been located in the Republic.
Police in Northern Ireland had made numerous attempts to locate Paul Hunter Redpath (37), who they said posed a "serious risk" to vulnerable children and young people.
Redpath had not been seen since he left his approved accommodation recently. However, gardaí detained him in the Wicklow area this morning.
A PSNI spokeswoman said Redpath would be subject to registration under sex offender registration requirements in the Republic. Police are expected to seek to have Redpath returned to Northern Ireland.
Redpath, who was convicted of sex offences against two girls, previously went missing in 2006 but was later discovered in the Dublin area.
