Ireland's men lost out to hosts Spain as the European Nations Cup got underway in Barcelona today.
The hosts took the lead within minutes of the start and raced into a 4-1 lead inside the opening quarter.
Ireland, despite the debilitating heat in the Catalan capital, fought back but eventually were beaten 6-4.
Earlier, Ireland's women got their Nations Cup campaign off to a winning start with a well-earned victory over Wales.

Ballymoney's Lyndsey McVicker notched the only goal of the game after 24 minutes and despite being reduced to ten players on two occasions, Riet Kuper's side held on for the win.
