Earlier this year, the U2 album Pop went on sale for the first time amid midnight madness at the HMV Shop in Grafton Street. Yesterday, Dubliners in Grafton Street gave their reaction to the High Court ban on their homecoming concert. Richard Balls conducted a Bono Vox Pop.

"I don't think any band should be able to contravene the planning laws. If it had gone ahead in the Phoenix Park then fine, but U2 are not above the law." Louise Masterson, Rockbrook, Dublin.

"If you live in Lansdowne Road, it's a fair point. A concert leads to noise pollution and litter. I know someone who lives close to Croke Park and the amount of rubbish left around after the Garth Brooks concerts was terrible." Brian Devitt, Balbriggan, Co Dublin.

"It is indicative that we don't have a large scale venue set aside for this purpose. There is a need for that type of place, especially considering how much the music industry is contributing to Ireland. If I lived in Lansdowne Road, I would not like it whoever was playing. The destruction is phenomenal when these events happen." Chris Caffrey, Tallaght, Co Dublin.

"I think it's terrible - we should be proud of them [U2]. They have done really well for the Irish and everyone knows them. They should be allowed to play in their own country. Maybe it should be moved somewhere else." Grainne Flanagan (16), Clon dalkin, Dublin.

"They are one of the biggest hits to come out of Ireland. They should be allowed to play. They have played everywhere else. It is just bad luck on U2." Anna Pavlides (16), Clondalkin, Dublin. "It is the same anywhere when it comes to pop concerts. I suppose you can't really blame the residents, but it is only for one day. People have the same attitudes to travellers when they come to their own doorstep." Sharon O'Connell, Leixlip, Co Kildare.

"If they could let a quarter of a million people into the Phoenix Park, why wouldn't they let U2 play there? This is probably going to be U2's last great album. They need to go out with a bang. Politicians talk so much about how much of a boost U2 have given the country, they should do something for them." Kevin Sheridan, Dundrum, Dublin.

"Why are people in Lansdowne Road so special? The people living around the RDS don't complain about concerts held there. It is because it is U2 that so much is being made of all this." Lisa Reid, Bal doyle, Dublin.
