Celtic¿s were today hit with the news that Johan Mjallby is facing three months on the sidelines.
It has emerged that a scope on the Sweden international's knee has confirmed fears he has suffered cartilage damage and will miss some vital domestic and European matches for the club.
Only last week he was buoyed by results of a scan which revealed he had not suffered any meaningful damage to his lateral miniscus, but unfortunately this afternoon's scope has shown that the different cartilage had degenerated significantly.
Mjallby has been told to prepare himself for a 12-week period of rehabilitation, but the club's medical team fully expect to see him back in action before the turn of the year.
A Celtic spokesperson confirmed: "The results have shown that there has been some ligament damage to Johan's knee and the diagnoses is that he will be out for three months."
He was badly missed at Fir Park last night and he will definitely miss the Old Firm clash on October 8th and there is a chance he could also be sidelined for the Ibrox game on December 7th.
The champions are trying to recover from last night's shock 2-1 defeat to Motherwell which was their first defeat of the year.
