Mobile phone owners will shortly be able to make calls at fixed-line prices when they are at home under a plan published by ComReg today.
ComReg said mobile firms could start offering the new 'home-zonal' service near a customer's home for the same prices as fixed-line calls.
The communications regulator also said that it was supporting changes that would make it easier for landline customers to move their telephone numbers entirely to mobile operators for the home-zonal service.
In a statement today, ComReg said it has "balanced its decisions with a clear indication that in future fixed-line operators who wish to provide mobile numbers will be facilitated, so long as these numbers are used for genuinely mobile purposes."
