Mobile phone operator O2 Ireland says its customer numbers rose by 4,451 during the second quarter of 2004.

Mobile phone operator O2 Ireland says its customer numbers rose by 4,451 during the second quarter of 2004.

The company, which ranks as Ireland's second largest mobile operator, says its  Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) show an increase of 7,079 post-pay customers and a decrease of 2,628 pre-pay customers, bringing O2's total customer base to 1.395 million.

Average Revenue per User (ARPU) increased to €361 for pre-pay customers, up from €342 for the same period last year.

ARPU for post-pay customers increased to €1,053 up from €1,024 in the same period last year.
  
O2 Ireland's average revenue per user in Ireland was €556, down slightly on the previous quarter, but significantly above the figures for the parent company mmO2's British and German operations.

The company said there were 321 million text messages sent during the quarter representing a 14.4 per cent increase on last year.

O2 Ireland's chief executive Ms Danuta Gray said: "The significant increase to our post pay base is driven by gains in the business market which were achieved through a combination of measures, most notably through compelling offers to our business customers and the products and services we offer."
