Moroni - Secessionists on the Comoros island of Moheli elected a former army officer as "president" of their self-declared breakaway state yesterday. It is the second island in the archipelago to declare independence in 10 days.
The secessionists at a rally in the capital, Fromboni, chose Mr Said Mohamed Souef as their president and he then named a fellow former army officer, Mr Sodri Ahmed, as prime minister, witnesses said.
