Five men charged in connection with an attempted robbery in Co Wicklow last May when a raider was shot dead by gardai faced further charges in the Special Criminal Court yesterday.
Mr Ronan McLoughlin (28), from Ballymun, Dublin, died when gardai opened fire on a gang attempting to rob a security van near Ashford.
The five are: Mr Pascal Burke (34), of Marrowbone Lane, Dublin; Mr Stephen Carney (22), of Dolphin House, Dublin; Mr Saoirse Breathnach (19), of Cypress Court, Ballybrack, Co Dublin; Mr Philip Forsythe (24), of Rollins Villas, Sallynoggin, Co Dublin; and Mr Danny McAllister (43), of Cromlech Fields, Ballybrack, Co Dublin.
All five had previously been charged with possession of a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a Mossberg 12-gauge pump-action shotgun and a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver with intent to endanger life at Cullenmore, Ashford, Co Wicklow, on May 1st. They were also charged with having the guns with intent to commit a robbery on the same date.
Yesterday the five were further charged with having 12 shotgun cartridges, six rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition and 28 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition with intent to endanger life, having the ammunition with intent to commit a robbery and assaulting Mr Aidan McGowran with intent to rob him at Cullenmore on May 1st last.
Mr McAllister was also charged with possession of an AKM assault rifle, Mossberg pump-action shotgun and a .357 Magnum revolver with intent to endanger life and with intent to commit a robbery on the same date.
All five were remanded in custody for trial on December 1st next.
