As the death toll during Britain’s recent cold snap hit double figures yesterday, forecasters warned that up to a foot of snow could fall across much of the country today.
The Highlands of Scotland will see the heaviest snowfall, while up to six inches could fall in northern England, four inches in the Midlands and up to two inches in the South.
The latest victim was a 42-year-old man who died after his car careered into a river as he was driving his daughter on the school run along a bridle path in Derbyshire.
However, the Met Office expects temperatures to rise at the weekend. – PA
