Thailand has joined Singapore in suspending imports of a range of British livestock and animal products today after the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Essex.
The banned products include pork, lamb, embryos, blood and meat meals, straw and forage, wool, hair, bristles and raw hide skins, said Mr Rapeepong Vongdee, director at the Department of Livestock.
He said Thailand imported very little pork from European countries as local farmers raised enough pigs to meet domestic demand. Thailand had already banned British beef over mad cow disease.
It joined the European Union (including Ireland), the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea and Singapore in halting imports of British livestock and animal products after the outbreak.
Earlier this morning Singapore announced its suspension of British pork, mutton and game meats imports.
